Pune: In what could be a huge disappointment for Punekars and visitors to the city, the iconic Kayani Bakery is on the verge of a shutdown as the defence authorities have not provided the owners with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to renew the trade licence.
As per the defence authorities, the bakery and two other restaurants on East Street in Camp are allegedly functioning without a valid licence since 2006. Kayani Bakery, which is famous for its cakes, shrewsbury biscuits and other bakery products are on defence land with Kwality and Bagban restaurants.
Brigadier Rajiv Sethi, President of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), in a verbal communication to the bakery owner asked them to shut their business stating it to be illegally operating without a valid licence.
“PCB President, Defence Estate Officer (DEO) and I were on a round when the president objected that Kayani Bakery was running without a licence, calling it as illegal. He asked them to shut down. Currently, we are examining it, also the board has received several complaints from the army demanding action against them,” said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PCB, DN Yadav.
Yadav stated that no official letter has been issued against them as the matter is being probed.
